The only public session of Haringey’s current Finsbury Park Events Scrutiny Committee is being held on Monday 19th October.
The meeting commences at 7pm and will be held in the Council Chamber of the Civic Centre, High Road, Wood Green, London N22 8LE. (Turn right out of Wood Green underground and walk along High Road for about 100 yards; the Civic Centre is located on the opposite side of the road). The Finsbury Park item is likely to be taken first.
The Friends of Finsbury Park will have a deputation at the meeting and we understand that a number of members of the public will be asking questions.
You will be aware that the Friends of Finsbury Park (FOFP) have consistently challenged Haringey’s current events policy and have sought to end the large-scale events such as Wireless which we believe to be completely unsuited to this location.
The Scrutiny Committee’s draft report was published last week (Report—Finsbury Park Events Scrutiny Project) and the FOFP are concerned and deeply disappointed to discover that none of the reports 14 recommendations address the central issue of whether these events should continue. The noise nuisance, event related anti-social behaviour and crime and the loss of public access to much of the park for many weeks at the height of summer have not yet convinced this committee to recommend a change of policy.
Please do your best to come along to the Scrutiny Committee on Monday and lend your support to those seeking to encourage Haringey to acknowledge that these large-scale disruptive events should not be hosted in Finsbury Park and that Haringey’s events policy must change.
