Sadly this wonderful white willow by the running track has had to be felled as the trunk had been badly damaged in the recent high winds, making it unstable and dangerous.
Alex Fraser, Tree & Nature Conservation Manager for Finsbury Park said, “The tree was reported as being damaged probably by the high winds at the weekend [14th,15th November]. It was inspected and found in an imminently hazardous condition. Large splits had appeared in the main trunk making the tree liable to failure. It was essential that it was felled ASAP to prevent any injuries to the public.”
The willow has been sat upon, climbed on and fallen off from, for many years and we are very sad to see it go. The trunk will be left and the tree should regrow although it may take some years if it is ever to reach it’s former glory.
