The Friends formed in 1986 to ensure that the park remains a valuable resource for generations to come. We are a registered charity and hold regular community meetings to which all park users are invited. We attend stakeholder meetings with the Council, who hold the park in trust for the people. We strive to be representative and anyone can put themselves forward to join our committee.

  • We help protect, fund and restore our beautiful park for wildlife and people

  • We give local residents and park users a voice to help improve the park.

  • We promote safety and accessibility so that all users can enjoy the park in peace.

Each year, we focus on several areas which we think are priorities for the park. Our current campaigns include:

  1. Requesting water refill points at key locations through the park

  2. Asking the Council to review their policy on major events and cap their scale

  3. Calling upon the police and Council to do more to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime.

Latest news

  1. Major events season is once again upon us. If you’re unhappy about the way in which the keys to your public park are effectively given over to private enterprise during the summer months, do send a letter of objection to the Council.

  2. We’re looking for a volunteer treasurer for The Friends. Whilst an accounting or bookkeeping background would be preferable, a formal qualification is not necessary. Please see a summary of what’s involved - if you think you could help, please get in touch.
